With temperatures in the low fifty's our New Years Day Ride was wet more than anything. Wet from the melting snow water that was running across the road. However any day you get to ride in fifty degree weather in January is a great day.
Our Winters are unpredictable here in Southern New England. Almost every year we get short breaks in the freezing weather where the temps can get into the forty's or fifty's. That's when you appreciate not taking your bike off the road in the Winter. Maybe it's just me, but i never found the savings all that much so i leave it on year round. In my mind the fewer dealings i have with insurance companies and the MASS RMV the better! But to each his own.
Of course our bikes got filthy. But we're not the chrome polish cowboys, who's bikes are hermetically sealed away in hibernation types. You know your hard core when the smell of steaming, dirty snow melt water coming off your engine brings a smile to your face. Just a few days before the weatherman said we could expect fifty degree weather i mentioned to Mrs Crusty that i was in need of a little mental health ride. So our New Years Day ride was perfect timing. The ride it self was not exciting. We stuck close to home because when the sun goes down around here you never know when black ice can happen. Our plan was to go off for two or three hours without ever being very far away from home. Our hundred mile loop got us back to the parking lot just before the sun went down. It was a much needed run for Old Crusty's Brain and it was good for the bikes. Bikes hate to sit idle for long periods of time.
Sunday's weather was rainy and wet. Although the temperature was still mild, I was not feeling like riding in the rain having just gotten over a bad cold. Yes at my age you have to think of your health first and fun second. Our plan was to hop in the car and scope out one of the loops we have been thinking about for a Spring Run. Hey why not use the Winter's sucky weather to our advantage? It sure beats sitting at home watching TV or taking down the Christmas tree!
Well it's back to work today. It's a new year and a new week. More importantly its one more week closer to Spring.

Days are getting longer! I was the only Beemer at a ride and eat on New Years...apparently the rest of them care about resale value. :D Glad you got out too!
Happy New Year, Crusty.
I don't understand parking the bike for winter either but... eh, whatever. ::shrug::
Glad you and the Mrs. got out for a bit. It was a great way to ring in the new year and hopefully a sign of good rides to come throughout.
Glad you got to ride on the first day of the year. I did not.
