Sad Day Motorcycleville

I know its been a while since my last post. So many changes have happened in my own life i have not had time or the energy to sit down and write. Most of the personal changes have been positive and down right wonderful. Most of the business changes have been scary, frightning and sad. I have talked at length over the last couple of years about how business has declined and what a difficult challange it is to be in the motorcycle industry. I wont rehash all those now.

What brings old Crusty out of hiding is this mornings sad news that Cycle News has ceased publication. I was shocked and yet not surprised at the same time. While i have had business dealings with the folks at Cycle News over the years and had been lessed then impressed with their way of doing business, i still hate to see one of this countries motorcycle publications go out of business. Yes i know their on-line version is still available, but it's not the same. Not for those of us older the 17. If i have to explain why that is, you wont understand anyways. Earlier this month i got news that Trail Rider Magazine was sold. At one time Trail Rider was the place to turn to for New England off-road news, but over the last 10 years or so it was in decline and the news of its changing hands was no shock. Now with Cycle news gone, a big hole has opened up in my heart.

Yeah, sad to see CN go. Heading to the bike shop on Saturday to pick up a copy for 25 cents was a regular ritual for me. The day I saw my name listed in some obscure race results was about the coolest thing ever at that point in my life.
